Our Story
For years, the allure of working the water as a recreational fisherman tugged at me. But observing the decline of small-scale commercial bay fishing due to overfishing and environmental shifts, I knew that era was ending. Aquaculture offered a new horizon. My focus shifted to cultivating kelp, clams, and oysters, leading me to hard-shell clams. Here, I could plant, nurture, and harvest, establishing my own place in the seafood market while providing fresh, local fare without contributing to the pressures of traditional fishing. This vision became Bear Island Clam Co.
Bear Island Clam Co.'s mission is to cultivate and deliver the finest, sustainably raised hard-shell clams from waters of the Thimble Islands of Branford, Connecticut, providing a fresh and local seafood option while honoring the legacy of working the sea responsibly in a changing environment.
